The New Husband
by D.J. Palmer

What makes Simon Fitch so perfect?

-He knows all her favorite foods, music, and movies.
-Her son adores him. He was there when she needed him most.
-He anticipates her every need.
-He would never betray her like her first husband.

The perfect husband. He checks all the boxes.

The question is, why?

Nina Garrity learned the hard way that her missing husband, Glen, had been leading a double life with another woman. But with Glen gone―presumably drowned while fishing on his boat―she couldn't confront him about the affair or find closure to the life he blew apart.

Now, a year and a half later, Nina has found love again and hopes she can put her shattered world back together. Simon, a widower still grieving the death of his first wife, thinks he has found his dream girl in Nina, and his charm and affections help break through to a heart hardened by betrayal. Nina's teenage son, Connor, embraces Simon as the father he wishes his dad could have been, while her friends see a different side to him, and they aren't afraid to use the word obsession.

Nina works hard to bridge the divide that’s come between her daughter and Simon. She wants so badly to believe her life is finally getting back on track, but she’ll soon discover that the greatest danger to herself and her children are the lies people tell themselves.

MY BOOK REVIEW:
5 Stars:  5/5 Star Rating
I remember saying something about the way the book seemed slow at first to my husband, and boy, did that end quickly....things started getting really interesting very fast!  I found myself shaking my head and wondering what in the world was going on and yet, I couldn't put my finger on the problem.  Something just didn't feel right.  Nina's daughter, Maggie, feels that something isn't right too. She thinks that her mother's new fiance is all wrong and she does not hold her opinions to herself.  Maggie hates Simon but the rest of the family loves him.
Compared to her dad, he is a real catch. She should be glad to have someone like him in her mom's life, right?  So why isn't she glad?  What DID happen to her dad? WHERE is her dad? Is he even alive?  No one knows and it's been two years.  She's not ready to give up on him the way her mom and brother are though.
This book is really incredible. It is fast-moving and the characters are well-developed.   I found myself feeling intense emotions for the characters.  The book is a mystery and thriller, which at times borders on horror, in my opinion, but I could not stop reading !  I am not normally into horror so much as I am into mystery and suspense.  This book addresses trust, family relationships, domestic violence, murder, and suicide.  If you like this type of book, go for it!  You won't be sorry.  There are a few instances of cussing for those who care to know.
I received a digital ARC of this book from netgalley and St. Martin's Press.  All opinions expressed are my own.
